A Letter to God
Dear
God,
I wanted to
write you and let you know why we don’t attend church regularly. You have chosen a day that comes at the end
of a hard week and we are all tired out.
Also it
comes just after Saturday night and that is the night we feel we should enjoy
ourselves…take in a movie, or a ballgame, or the mall…and it is usually after
midnight when we get to sleep late. And
then too, my family demands a big dinner on Sunday…and when I get up late, I
can’t get all of this prepared and still make it to Sunday School and church.
My husband
likes to read and Sunday Sports page and the kids want to read all the comics,
and I must be honest and admit I enjoy a lazy Sunday morning too. I mean no disrespect, but it seems you have
picked the wrong day. Sunday is just
the wrong day for church. Besides…in
the spring and fall, my husband enjoys fishing and hunting…. you just don’t
realize how important that big buck every year is. My husband says he feels close to God out on the lake in those
early morning hours. And…my husband
enjoys golf…he doesn’t play much, but Sunday is the only day he can go. He works so hard all week. Last week it was raining so we thought this
would be a good Sunday to go to church, but a rainy morning is such good
sleeping. Besides the kids might catch
a bug in such weather. The doctor told
us church is the worse place you can take a child. I don’t want the kids to catch something. Also, if it is decent weather on Sunday
mornings, if it is not hunting or fishing season…or golf season, Sunday is the
only day to catch up on chores around the house. Things can really get behind, you know, if you have a home. Why…did you pick Sunday??? On Sunday afternoons when we determine we
will go to church that night…my husband is into his Nascar or Pro football…if
the kids don’t have their soccer or football league games. We just don’t have time for church after all
this.
We were
going to come to church last Sunday evening. Since we missed that morning…and
wouldn’t you know company came over. We
didn’t want to be rude.
Please try
to understand and not hold this against us.
I told John, my husband, last night we just had to get straightened out
and get back to church or people are to talk.
The preacher has asked us several times to help out down at church in
various ways, but as you can see…we just don’t have the time.
I wanted to
tell you these things so you can see our viewpoint and know that it is really
not our fault that we don’t attend church regularly on Sunday.
Faithfully
yours,
Minnie Saints
