Revisions of the 1611 KJV Bible
Revisions of the 1611 KJV Bible
Question: Haven't there been several revisions of the King
James Bible since 1611?
There have been, technically speaking, 4 editions of the KJV
since 1611 up to about 1769. We must realize that these 'revisions' were
simply corrections in printing errors that the printers themselves made down at
the printing shop, or corrections in spelling and punctuation, or printing
style. We must understand that the printing process was not as dependable as we
have today with the computer age. Another source of 'changes' was in
spelling of words in the King James Bible. You see, punctuation and spelling of
words changed during this period of the English language, and as a word come to
have a settled and one correct spelling, that was the spelling that was adopted
by 1769. We must understand that before that time, a word could have
several different spellings and still be considered 'correct'. This is the
vast majority of the 'thousands' of changes critics have pointed to in order to
belittle the King James Bible. Other Changes were in punctuation.
Punctuation, too, came to a settled form by 1769.
The myth that there are several 'major' revisions to the 1611
KJV should be getting clearer. These are not 'revisions' but rather
'corrections'. There is no change to the text between 1611 and 1769,
rather the correcting of errors that the printers made down at the print shop.
These are called TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS.
The other corrections were in spelling and punctuation and in
style of printing from Gothic to Roman Style.
For the NEW King James version to say it is simply a '5th
Revision' of the 1611 KJV is just NOT true! It makes 60,000 changes to the
TEXT! These changes are from the altered erroneous Alexandrian text behind
the NIV and all the other newer versions WHICH ARE ALL MESSED UP!
Stay with the King James Bible. Your 1769 Edition has
corrected printing errors made back then and it has made proper changes in
spelling and punctuation that should be today.
