The Gospel Center urges people to use only the King James Version of the Bible, yet the Pastors have recommended books to the people that have included Bible verses from the NIV and other Bible versions....Isn’t this hypocritical? No, we do no believe so. We are very clear to our folks that we believe newer Bible versions are vastly inferior to the King James Bible. There are many helpful books that still use different Bible versions. That doesn’t mean the books can’t still be helpful. When we were raised in the country we often had catfish for a meal. We were taught to eat the meat and leave the bones. I have gleaned much benefit from such books and then looked the Scripture reference up in my King James Version Bible. Many of my favorite preachers include great men such as Charles Stanley, Adrian Rogers, and Warren Wiersbe and they all use and promote the newer Bible versions. Does this mean I dare not listen to them or read any of their works? Absolutely not. Perhaps they have not had a chance to study the matter personally to any great extent. That doesn’t mean they’re not helpful on other matters. I have benefited greatly from them, even though I believe they are wrong on this particular matter. One can have a computer at home that has access to many bad things on it, but that computer can still be used for good. Couldn’t the same principle be applied to recommended books and preachers? |
